Children of John and Mary Wise Rowe
John and Mary's first child, a son, was born on October 4, 1814, just a shade over nine months after they were married, in Greencastle. He was named John after his father, and he is my great-great-great-grandfather. He was the only one of the three children to stay in Greencastle. He married Elizabeth Watson Prather on February 18, 1836, and they had eight children, all but one of whom lived to adulthood. John and his wife lived their entire lives in Greencastle. John reached some prominence in state politics, serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Pennsylvania legislature in 1862. He died on January 11, 1880 at the age of 64, and is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery; his wife preceded him in death by less than a year and is buried with him. More details about his life can be found on his page.
John and Mary's two daughters were named Sarah Ann, born in 1823, and Maria, born in 1826. Maria married Michael Garber, and they moved to Scott County, Iowa (in which Davenport is located). When and why they moved there is not known. Maria and Michael had four children, three boys and a girl. Sarah Ann Rowe, who never married, also moved to Scott County, Iowa. Michael Garber died in 1891 (age 68), Sarah Ann in 1897 (age 74), and Maria in 1904 (age 78), and all three are buried in the cemetery in McCausland, Iowa, a little town near the Wapsipinicon River.
