LOUIS P. DAVIS, JR. (1919-2008)
Louis Poisson Davis, Jr. was born on July 17, 1919, in Washington, D.C., the oldest of Edna Shethar and Lou Davis's four boys. His father was career Navy, and held the rank of Commander at the time of his oldest son's birth. He was born in Columbia Hospital and he and his parents lived in the Cordova Apartments, located on the corner of Florida Avenue and 19th Street in Washington. Lou was baptized at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, on Connecticut Avenue, near the corner of Bancroft Place. Since he had the same name as his father, he was called "Boots" (or occasionally, "Bootie") by his parents when he was a child (and sometimes as an adult) -- no one claims to remember where the nickname originated.
